Hi Shara,
Yesterday Hannah Tutin from Waymo came to the Carroll Center for the blind
to do a presentation.
Waymo is still very much in the development since it is waiting for
legislatures approval.
They would like to be used Nation-wide as well as globally.
Since Waymos are not legal to be driven in Massachusetts at this time a
Jaguar I-Pace was trailered in from New York toto the Carroll Center.
We all got a group picture standing outside the Waymo as we talked to
Hannah.
Hannahs contact information is Hannah Tutin
Email: Htutin at waymo.com <mailto:Htutin at waymo.com>
Phone: 804-347-7339
Aside from Rashid and I being in attendance, Greg Donnelly, Michelle
Georges, Natalie DiLeo, David Kingsbury, Brian Switzer, and Marianne
Gillmore were all in attendance
Adam Roberge.

Apparently, this is not going to be part of Boston Public Radios broadcast.
But the café is still open. I hope to see you there.

Subject: Update on autonomous vehicles in Boston
Hello NFB Family and Friends,
Thank you to all of you who attended the Boston City hearing on October 28.
I know that Rashad and Stephen went and testified. Jen Bose also went to
represent and I learned last night, that Shirley was also there. I
attended on Zoom. I believe that the presence of our members and other
people who are blind and who have other disabilities made a difference in
how the members of the council viewed the proposed Ordinance 1432. The day
after the hearing when the Committee met to vote on the ordinance banning
autonomous driving they delayed the vote. I consider this to be a step in
the right direction. It is my impression that the fact that we were
there, helped them to delay the voting of the ordinance. once they were
able to hear from members of the blindness and disability community they
realized the issue was not simply about the employment of union drivers but
also the ability of people with disabilities to live a more fulfilled and
independent life with greater access to education, employment,
entertainment, healthcare, and much more! So again, thank you for your
support!
In addition, WGBH is holding a forum on Boston and Autonomous Vehicles next
Monday, November 17 at the Boston Public Library from 12 noon -1. You can
attend either in person or watch on YouTube. They also have a café in the
area where the studio is located there, so you could enjoy lunch before or
after this segment. The Boston Public radio, actually lasts from 11AM until
2PM. You can stay for just part of the time or the entire time. I have been
there a few times to talk with leaders of our state and local governments.
I am planning to attend in person. If you want to join me, please
contact me or just be there.
