Subject: [Massachusetts-NFB] Blind Architect? Yes, It's possible! Join us
this Thursday to learn more.

Have you ever thought about being a blind architect? If you have or if you
are interested in hearing about how other blind people can do so.

Join us for a talk on Blind Design Workshop Boston (BDW Boston), a new
pre-college architecture program for blind and low-vision students in
Massachusetts.

Architecture is often treated as a vision-centric field. Blind Design
Workshop Boston starts from a different premise: blindness can be a source
of insight, method, and possibility. The program introduces blind and
low-vision students to architecture through hands-on design exercises,
multisensory design methods, mentorship, portfolio development, and exposure
to college-level studio culture. In doing so, it challenges architecture's
tendency to prioritize the visual over other senses, and advocates for blind
people having direct access to the tools and practices that shape the built
environment, leading to transformative practices and new blind spatial
imaginaries.

In this talk, Paul DeFazio will introduce the project, share the vision
behind it, and discuss how the program is being developed in conversation
with blind architects, students, and community partners. The presentation
will also cover the Spring 2027 pilot program and ways that blind students,
families, educators, and community members can stay involved.
