Subject: [Massachusetts-NFB] Member to Member - Getting to Know Each Other

Welcome to our next Member to Member! Today, we will get to know PaM Kalinoski, member of the At Large Chapter.

Pam was born and raised in Malden, Massachusetts. growing up with her mom, brother, and sister. She attended public school from kindergarten through eighth grade. She expressed that services weren’t the best, making friends was challenging, and they didn’t know much about braille. When Pam was in high school, she attended Perkins, graduating in 2003. She realized that something stood out when she was at Perkins and found sound cues helpful, like tapping a specific chair to tell her where to sit when a friend wanted her to sit with them. After graduating high school, she took online classes in braille and English through Hadley. She then got a job at Triangle Incorporated, a day program then in 2005, she worked at another day program called Seamark, both day programs that had people with various disabilities. She stopped working at Seamark in 2006, where she focused on performing, public speaking, and jam sessions. Then in 2019, she moved to North Reading.

Pam discovered the NFB through email just this year. She wanted to get to know more blind people in an environment different from Perkins. When asked if she had any advice for people who have just recently lost their vision or joined the NFB, she said, “Go for your dreams. What you want to do just put your mind to it. You can do it.”

Pam currently lives in North Reading with her mom and enjoys singing, reading, performing, learning, and listening to music. It has been great getting to know you, Pam! Stay tuned for our next Member to Member!

Stay safe and warm!

Sincerely,

Bronwen Tedesco
