Here are the January parent division notes.

January Parent Division Notes:

 

Call to order:

The January parent division meeting was called to order on January 8, at
6:03 P.M. The people who were in attendance were Ellen Bartelt, Dana Lynn,
Youm Wen Ly, Hai Wen Ly, and Stephanie Valdes. Stephanie led everyone on the
NFB pledge.

 

Secretary Report:

The vote to approve the November meeting notes was tabled until the February
meeting. There was a motion passed that Ellen would post the minutes twice a
month. When she posts the meeting zoom link and the day before the meeting
takes place.

 

State Convention:

The board decided to have their meeting March 27, from 5:30 to 7:00 during
the state convention.

 

Positions:

The positions on the board were discussed during the meeting. Stephanie will
reach out to Jen to see if she is still interested in being a board member.
There was discussion about eliminating one of the board positions. There was
also discussion about separating the secretary and treasury positions from
each other. This was discussed so one person would not have so much work to
do during the month.

 

Goals for 2026:

The division wants to work on outreach and bringing new members to meetings.
We would like to create a flyer to share with parents and teachers. The
flyer will explain what the division does and how it can be a resource to
families. We would also like to host a meet and greet during Meet the Blind
Month in October. We can also email the flyer out to our BELL families. We
also would like to share the flyer when we call people who are on our
non-member list to invite them to division meetings.

 

BELL Program:

Stephanie is looking for a location for this summer's BELL program. There
was a lot of discussion about having a one-week residential program. We
think more families will participate in the BELL program if it is in a
residential location. Two of our BELL students are already coming out of
state. Stephanie is thinking we will have more BELL student's ether in a
more central part of the state, or in a residential program.

The meeting ended at 7:22 P.M.
