Research Title: Development of Be My Mentor: A Flash Mentoring Intervention

Being conducted by: National Research & Training Center on Blindness & Low Vision, Mississippi State University

Purpose of the Study

The purpose of this project is to develop Be My Mentor, an electronic flash mentoring intervention for blind or low vision (B/LV) adults, integrated into the Be My Eyes mobile app. This new program will connect people who are B/LV with mentors for short, one-time, focused virtual meetings where a mentee seeks career-related guidance from a mentor on specific topics. Through this project, we aim to learn about the most prevalent career mentoring needs, issues, and challenges of B/LV adults, as well as identify the essential features that will make the intervention effective in addressing those needs.

Role of the Participants and Anticipated Length of the Study

Participants will complete a one-time online survey that takes approximately 10-20 minutes. Survey topics include participants€™ likelihood of using Be My Mentor, feature preferences, mentoring needs, and relevant expertise and experience of prospective flash mentors.

Proposed Participant Compensation

Participants may enter a drawing for one of six $50 gift cards.
