Disability ReFramed: Celebrating Our Childhood on TV

THURSDAY, JUNE 25, 2026, 6-8 PM

IN-PERSON & VIRTUAL

GBH STUDIOS, ONE GUEST STREET, BRIGHTON, MA

For many children with disabilities, seeing themselves represented on television can be a powerful and lasting experience. Public media has long led the way in creating more accessible, inclusive, and authentic stories for audiences of all abilities.

Join us for this year's Disability ReFramed: Celebrating Our Childhood on TV panel discussion, as we spotlight the newly launched AAPB Special Collection: Representing Children with Disabilities on Public Television.

Disability rights activist and author Emily Ladau and violinist Adrian Anantawan will reflect on how seeing disability represented on screen during their formative years shaped their lives, identities, and sense of belonging. The conversation will be moderated by Claire Houston of the Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family National Center for Accessible Media (NCAM) at GBH, whose research helped inspire the collection.

Before the discussion, join us in Yawkey Atrium for a light reception and an opportunity to view select items from the Special Collection, featuring decades of groundbreaking public media content. Secure your spot now!
