Here are the May parent division meeting notes.

May Parent Division Meeting Notes:

 

Call to order:

The May parent division meeting was called to order on May 21, at 6:06 P.M.
The people who were in attendance were Youme Nguyen Ly, Hai Nguyen Ly,
Stephanie Valdes, Dana Lynn Stockwood, Jen Bose, and Ellen Bartelt.
Stephanie led everyone in the NFB pledge.

 

Secretary Report:

The secretary's report was table for the May meeting.

 

National Convention:

Mass has one student who is a scholarship finalist for this years national
convention. The dates for national convention are July 3-8 in Austin Texas.
The main hotel has filled up, but there are overflow hotels. You can
register to attend convention online if you cannot attend in person.

 

Flyer:

Jen and Youme have been working on a flyer to send out to families. They are
trying to find the programs that the national parent division does every
year. Stephanie said she will look through her emails for a list of programs
from national. There was also discussion about having IEP services on the
flyer. Ellen and Stephanie are trained on the IEP laws in Mass.

 

Legislation:

Stephanie said the day at the state capital is June 25. The parent bill in
Mass has hit a dead end for right now. We plan to invite Kyra to the next
parent meeting to help the division with ideas to move forward with a parent
bill.

 

Meet the Blind Month:

Youme has talked to her local library about having a read aloud with
families. There was also discussion about having a read aloud in the Boston
area. Youme also brought up the idea of having a cane walk during Meet the
Blind Month.

 

Meeting Ending:

The meeting ended at 7:06 P.M.
