Research Study Title: Spatial and Object Perception Among the Vision Impaired
Researchers at UNSW are conducting a project about spatial and object perception among the visually impaired. The research study aims to gain insight into vision impaired individuals’ navigation abilities, orientation and mobility methods, and spatial and object perception. The research aims to determine the prevalence of echolocation use, its association with spatial and object perception, and whether training is associated with its usage. This research is important as it may inform orientation and mobility training, and increase echolocation training which is has been associated with increased navigational comfort in the vision impaired.
Participation in this research is optional and voluntary. If you choose to participate, you will have the option to enter a draw to win one of five gift cards valued at $100 AUD. Winners will have the choice between an Amazon or Apple gift card.
If you are interested, the research project is looking for people who want to take part in this research and who are:
• Visually impaired (this includes low vision, blindness, or any other impairment that affects field of view or visual acuity)
• Over the age of 18
• Reside in either Australia, New Zealand, United States, United Kingdom, or Canada.
The study involved completing a survey via Qualtrics. Participants’ are being recruited from Australia, New Zealand, United States, United Kingdom, and Canada to provide a diverse and large sample group.
