This is a friendly reminder that the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee of the National Federation of the Blind of Ohio cordially invites you to a workshop, “Optic Nerve Hypoplasia: Building the Federation among a unique population of the Blind”. This workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time in the Ohio Affiliate Zoom Room. Please see link below.
This workshop will be conducted by Christopher Sabine, secretary of the National Federation of the Blind of Ohio, Cincinnati Chapter, and Treasurer of the Ohio Affiliate. Mr. Sabine is President and Founder of ONH Consulting, the only firm providing educational and community referrals to families with children and adults with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia operated by a Blind adult with this condition. Mr. Sabine’s web site is located at http://www.onhconsulting.com.
By the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to do the following:
1. Give a definition of Optic Nerve Hypoplasia and outline at least three ways in which the condition can affect a child’s development other than vision.
2. Outline at least three significant medical conditions commonly experienced by children and adults with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia and potential accommodations or strategies to thrive with them in a classroom or community setting.
3. Describe at least three psychosocial and behavioral characteristics that children and adults with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia often demonstrate.
4. Outline at least five strategies to foster the development of children with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia and discuss how programs and activities of the National Federation of the Blind can help children and adults with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia live the lives they want.
The following is the agenda for this workshop:
5. 7:00 to 7:05- Introductions
1. 7:05 to 7:15- What is Optic Nerve Hypoplasia: The three-legged stool and a spectrum.
2. 7:15 to 7:35- Behavioral and psycho-social characteristics
3. 7:35 to 7:45- Educational and Developmental Strategies
4. 7:45 to 7:55- Question and Answer
5. 7:55 to 8:00- Conclusion. All times Eastern.
