“The journey of a thousand miles begins beneath one’s feet.”
— Tao Te Ching, Chapter 64

Hello everyone,

Our first Tai Chi and Qigong gathering will be this Thursday at 7:00 PM via Zoom, and I’m looking forward to beginning this journey together.

For our first practice, we won’t be concerned with getting every movement right or trying to accomplish anything complicated. We will begin where all practice begins—with ourselves.

We will take some time to quiet the mind, settle into our bodies, and become aware of our breathing. From there, we’ll begin with gentle movements and simple Qigong practices intended to help us connect our breath with our movement and become more aware of the energy moving within us.

In Tai Chi and Qigong, we learn that movement does not always have to come from effort. Sometimes it comes from allowing. We breathe, we soften, we listen, and we let the body begin to move naturally. As the mind becomes quieter, we can become more aware of the subtle sensations within ourselves—the rise and fall of the breath, the shifting of our balance, and the feeling of energy circulating through the body.

There is nowhere we need to hurry toward.

Our first gathering is simply a beginning.

We will breathe together.
We will move together.
We will listen together.
And we will give ourselves permission to slow down.

I want to remind everyone that I am not approaching this as a master or someone who has reached the end of this path. I am a student myself, and what I hope to share is what I have learned along the way and the peace, balance, and serenity that these practices have brought into my own life.

Perhaps the greatest gift of practicing together is that we don’t have to walk the path alone. Each of us will experience the movements differently, and each person’s body and breath will have its own wisdom. There is no need to compare ourselves with one another. We simply practice, observe, and allow ourselves to learn.

So come as you are.

You don’t need previous experience. You don’t need to be flexible. You don’t need to know anything about Tai Chi or Qigong.

Just bring yourself, a little curiosity, and a willingness to breathe.

Thursday at 7:00 PM — via Zoom

I look forward to taking those first steps together.

Scott
