Dearfriends
I’m sorry to let you know that I won’t be able to lead our Tai Chi session this evening. My children have an open house at their middle school, and as much as I would rather be moving and practicing with all of you tonight, I feel that being present for my children is where I need to be.
Although we won’t be together tonight, I encourage each of you to continue the practice we have been developing. If you have the opportunity, spend some time moving slowly and quietly, paying particular attention to the relationship between your breath and your movement.
Rather than trying to make the movement happen, see if you can become sensitive enough to notice when the breath seems to invite the body to move. Feel the shifting of your weight, the relaxation of your muscles, the movement of your spine, and the subtle changes that occur when you stop trying to control everything.
Perhaps tonight we can each practice separately while remaining connected through the same intention: to listen rather than force, to feel rather than analyze, and to allow the breath and body to move together naturally.
In that sense, even though we aren’t physically together, we are still practicing the same lesson.
I look forward to being back with everyone next week and continuing our journey together.
Until then, breathe, listen, soften, and let the movement arise.
With gratitude,
Scott
