The research questions focus on identifying the key barriers to non-visual makeup application, understanding how individuals with vision impairments develop and refine their makeup skills, and investigating how assistive technologies can enhance their experience.

Role of the Participants and Anticipated Length of the Study

The study will be conducted through Zoom remotely. It consists of three parts:

Demographic Info: Participants will be asked about their background, experience with makeup, current methods, and any assistive tools they use. They will discuss the challenges they face in applying makeup and assessing the final result.

Makeup Application Session: Participants will apply makeup as they normally would, using their preferred tools and techniques. The process will be video-recorded for later analysis. They will be encouraged to verbalize their thoughts, decisions, and challenges while applying makeup.

Follow-up questions: Participants will reflect on their makeup process, explaining their step choices and assessment methods. They will discuss what aspects of makeup application they find most challenging and any support they wish they had.

Overall it will take about 90 minutes.

Proposed Participant Compensation

Yes, $60 for the study through Amazon gift card or Venmo.

Link or Instructions for Participants to Enter the Study

Hi,

We are conducting a new and voluntary research study in which we would like to invite you to participate.
