Have you ever gone to Washington Seminar, entered the meeting, and found that the staff member assigned to meet with you was the healthcare policy specialist? Even in years when our priorities had nothing to do with healthcare, I have
had that experience. Something about saying that we are a group of blind people seems to tell them that we must be there to talk about healthcare, like the only thing we could possibly care about is trying to cure our blindness.

Have you ever tried to work with a local eye doctor’s office to try to share information about the NFB so that maybe they could tell more blind people about us?

Sometimes, these conversations can be difficult. Through trial and error, I think I have stumbled upon a framework for talking about our work that has worked pretty well with healthcare professionals and health policy folks.
