All,
We are seeking applications for the Bernard F. Turner Award. Applications
are due to Ellen Ringlein at Convention at nfbmd.org
<mailto:Convention at nfbmd.org> by October 11, 2021. The application is
attached and is available at https://nfbmd.org.
Bernard F. Turner lost his sight at age 40. He learned the skills of
blindness and went on to live the life he wanted. He went back to work and
retired as an Instructional Technology Supervisor from the Arnold & Porter
Law Firm.
Applicants will need to write a brief essay, not longer than two or three
paragraphs explaining how this award will help them to live the life they
want and achieve greater independence. They should be sure to include when
they lost their sight, how they handle blindness, and how they will use the
award.
Applicants should attach copy(s) of documents supporting the need for award
funds (bill for technology, tuition, etc.) to their application. If they
don't have an actual bill, they can send a description and price.

The National Federation of the Blind of Maryland knows that blindness is not
the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
