Hello All,
Thank you for writing to Delegate Ebersole and Delegate Atterbeary about
HB547, the Accountability Act for Accessible K-12 Education. You need to do
it one more time because the committee took no action last week due to the
gas tax and other priorities. We need to convince these chairmen that this
is an important bill for students with disabilities and that they should
schedule a vote. I am asking each of you to write or call Eric Ebersole,
chairman of the Early Childhood and Special Education subcommittee (email:
Eric.Ebersole at house.state.md.us
<Eric.Ebersole at house.state.md.us?body=To%20assist%20us%20as%20quickly%20and%20comprehensively%20as%20possible,%20please%20include%20the%20following%20information.%0A%0ANAME:%0AHOME%20ADDRESS%20AND%20ZIP%20CODE:%0APHONE%20NUMBER:%20>;
phone: 410-841-3328 OR 301-858-3328, ext 3328). Please also write or call
Vanessa Atterbeary, the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee
(email: Vanessa.Atterbeary at house.state.md.us
<Vanessa.Atterbeary at house.state.md.us?body=To%20assist%20us%20as%20quickly%20and%20comprehensively%20as%20possible,%20please%20include%20the%20following%20information.%0A%0ANAME:%0AHOME%20ADDRESS%20AND%20ZIP%20CODE:%0APHONE%20NUMBER:%20>;
phone: 410-841-3471 OR 301-858-347, ext 3471).
Please contact these Chairmen on Monday, March 21 or Tuesday, March 22. Get
your friends, neighbors, and relatives to contact them as well. Ask
Delegates Ebersole and Atterbeary to get this bill out of committee
quickly. Tell them that this bill is vital if students with disabilities
are to obtain a quality education. This is not just an education bill, it
is a civil rights bill too. Students with disabilities are losing
educational opportunities. We cannot wait another year for action.
Thank you,
*Sharon Maneki, Director of Legislation and Advocacy*

The National Federation of the Blind of Maryland knows that blindness is
not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Everyday we raise
the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
