Hello all,
The next meeting of the At Large Chapter will be Tuesday, June 20. The
national president's message begins at 7:30, followed by the meeting from
8-9pm. We will be reviewing a podcast about the National Convention so that
all those who are going virtually will not miss some of the exciting
things. Don't miss it! For your convenience, the call-in number is
339-209-4083. Below are the minutes.

NFBMD At Large Chapter Meeting Minutes for May 16, 2023

The Presidential Release was played at 7:30 PM.

The meeting was started at 8:00 PM by Marguerite Woods, President.

The round robin took place. Everyone announced themselves, stated where
they are in the state, and answered the question “would you like to work
for someone or work for yourself?”

There were approximately 30 members on the call.

Charles led Alice in the NFB pledge.

Sharon mentioned the National Convention and that there was still time to
register for convention in person or virtually. She also announced that all
bills have been signed by the governor of Maryland.

Marguerite announced the Senior call taking place on May 17th.

Tonight’s guest speakers are Kevin Cross and Daniel Johnson. Kevin lost his
vision 8 years ago. He started his own business. He is the creator of the
essential cane keepers. His other dream is to travel again. Kevin is
planning his first trip, which will be on two other continents. His website
is Thekanekeeper.com. The cane keeper costs 29.95 plus tax.

Daniel spoke about how he became employed after becoming blind. He was
employed prior to losing his vision and lost his job because of it. He
applied for Amazon. He helped Amazon make his position accessible to him
and other blind individuals. His job is to scan and count food products,
which then get sent to other Amazon sites throughout the country.

The meeting adjourned at 9:02 PM.

Respectfully Submitted by Danielle Earl, Secretary

The National Federation of the Blind of Maryland knows that blindness is
not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Everyday we raise
the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
