It was truly an honor and pleasure to speak to the attendees on the teleconference from the National Federation of the Blind to provide a presentation about the Department of Aging under your inspiring series theme, “My eyes don’t work, but my mind still does.”  Thank you for taking the time to meet in advance in preparation for the presentation.   It is good to know that the resource information was received, especially regarding the Maryland Access Point (MAP) offices that are located throughout the state of Maryland.  As a reminder, the Baltimore County MAP office number is: 410-887-2594.  For information about MAP services anywhere in the state of Maryland, feel free to call: 1-844-627-5465or 1-844-MAP-LINK.
 
Following the teleconference, it was realized that we did not discuss the “Center for Independent Living – CIL”.  Baltimore County Department of Aging works in close partnership with the CIL in the Maryland Access Point office and in the Home and Community Based Services program.  As you may already be aware, the CILs are known to serve as a great resource and advocate for individuals with disabilities.   The Baltimore County CIL office phone number is: 410-982-6311.  They can also put you in touch with other CIL offices around the state. 
 
One of the important take-aways from the meeting for me included the awareness that support is needed for the individuals who serve in the role as  “Caregivers with disabilities”.  This information will continually be shared with my colleagues, especially those in the Caregivers programs / committees.
