The Office of Congressional Accessibility Services is thrilled to announce
we are now offering on-demand visual interpreting for the blind and
low-vision community. 

 

Any visitor to the United States Capitol can make free calls to a visual
interpreter using the Aira Explorer app <https://aira.io/aira-explorer-app/>
. The app connects blind or low-vision users to professional visual
interpreters at the tap of a button. Interpreters use a caller's phone
camera and microphone to make visual information more accessible. They can
describe surroundings, navigate, read aloud, and assist with a vast range of
tasks. 

 

Visitors can use Aira Explorer for assistance with a variety of tasks in the
Capitol Visitor Center, such as locating our ticket desk, exploring
Exhibition Hall, navigating the restaurant, or perusing the gift shop. Every
call is picked up by a professional visual interpreter who signs a
confidentiality agreement and has rigorous training in privacy and security.
The service is available at no cost and calls connect within seconds. 

 

To get started, simply download the  <https://aira.io/aira-app/> free Aira
Explorer app in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, create an account,
and tap a button to place a call.
