[Md-sligo] FW: Announcement: Review of the Emergency AlertSystem

I have been signed up for Montgomery County e-alerts by e-mail since last
September. A lot of emergencies don't get alerted. Other minor (to me)
things are sent out on the system. It's interesting, but I wouldn't call it
crucial. The web system Mont County uses seemed to be accessible enough, as
I remember. You specify your location, and you also can specify the types
of alerts you want to receive.

AlertSystem

I will suggest that for those of us who have Iphones and also email
addresses, to sign up for the emergency alert services. PG county and
Montgomery county have these system on the website. It will give us a chance
to test it out before writing up our comments for FCC.

The information provided through this system is helpful and informative. For
me, it is not readily available. It is more for pagers and cell phones with
smart aps.

FCC Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking

Review of the Emergency Alert System

REVIEW OF THE EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM. The Federal Communications Commission
(FCC) has issued a Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to get the public's
input on proposed changes to rules governing the Emergency Alert System
(EAS), to provide for alert messages using the Common Alerting Protocol
(CAP). CAP permits emergency alerts to be sent to users in voice; audio, or
data files; images; and multilingual translations; and allows links to be
sent that provide further information. The FCC's Notice asks for comments
on certain disability access issues in paragraphs 189-195. This item has
possible impacts for people with disabilities, especially for persons with
vision and hearing disabilities.
