Debbie, This is the only way I can contact you tonight. You are using your
phone line. When I try to initiate an email to you it does not go through.
It comes back to me.
Can you tell me either email or phone information for Helen, Yasmine, and
Janice?

This is only for Montgomery County. I know that you can't use the service
to get to work, but I don't know of any other exceptions. I also don't know
how long it takes to reimburse you.

Good news: The grant to the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind for this
service has been extended for another year by Montgomery County. People
have used this reimbursement service to attend meetings, go to the theater
or concerts, go out with friends, and attend memorial services. People have
traveled as far as Baltimore! Read on for how it works.

Montgomery County residents who are visually impaired and who find using
taxis preferable but expensive can consider a new option: The Columbia
Lighthouse for the Blind has received a grant from Montgomery County to
provide taxi ride reimbursement to people with vision impairments. The
grant may be used for trips to the library, to church, to the mall, to the
movies, or other such recreational activities, but not for work, school, or
scheduled medical appointments, though it may be used in the event of a
non-scheduled emergency medical appointment. The Lighthouse asks that you
get pre-approval 5 days in advance of each trip to ensure availability of
funds, except in emergency situations. After you pay the taxi driver, get a
complete, signed receipt from the driver, then fax or mail it to the
Lighthouse (see contact info below), and you will receive a check for the
amount. This service is only for Montgomery County residents who don't
drive because of impaired vision (for example, if you are in the Talking
Book program or have Metro Access because of a vision impairment).
