Correction to the agenda for the Saturday Technology Training Session, January 19, 2013:
Scott Marshall of the Federal Communications Commission will be substituting for Judy Dixon, who is travelling, as a presenter at the January 19th Saturday Technology Training Session. Scott will talk about the importance of Braille literacy to employment and give a little bit of his personal story. The other presenters and details are listed below:
Daman Wandke, recently hired as Section 508 Program Analyst at the Federal Housing Finance Agency, will talk about his personal successes and challenges finding employment in the Federal Government. Tony Paschal from DC Rehabilitation Services, will present on the path to employment, Schedule A, and a proposed Job Club that will be held regularly at the library this spring;
The DC Public Library Adaptive Technology Program sponsors a series of employment-related Saturday Technology Training Sessions this spring at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. These events will include presentations and discussion on the topic of disability employment as well as the opportunity to network with a group of service providers, agency representatives and successful role models in our community. Saturday Technology Training Sessions are held on the first and third Saturday afternoons if each month, from 1:00PM to 4:00PM in room 215, Adaptive Services, at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library at 901 G Street NW, Washington DC, 20001.

Some of the topics covered at the different presentations this spring will include:
* Schedule A Hiring Authority, which enables people with disabilities to be brought into the federal government non-competitively.
* Information on employment-related civil rights laws.
* Assessment tools that will help you decide your career path such as the Myers-Briggs test
* Federal government benefits such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)
* Information on how to start a business of your own.
* Job accomodation resources and possibilities.

USAJOBS (http://www.usajobs.gov/) is the official job site of the Federal Government. It is a one stop source for Federal jobs and employment information.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) (http://www.ssa.gov) manages the social insurance program, consisting of retirement, disability, and survivors' benefits.
Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) (http://www.dol.gov/odep/) provides national leadership by developing and influencing disability related employment policy and practices that affect people with disabilities.
Job Accommodation Network (JAN) (http://askjan.org/) is a free consulting service of ODEP operated by West Virginia University providing individualized worksite accommodation solutions, technical assistance regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and information about self employment options.
