Dear Debbie and all:
I regret to let you know that I will not be joining you for the scholarship
dinner, I have been invited to GDF to get a Guide dog in the October class,
You guys know how much I miss Levi and how bad I have felt since she passed,
Having a guide Dog means a lot to me, so I thought I would take this
opportunity I will tell you all about it when my guide and I return from
New York. I have already made reservations to attend the convention so I
will get to see you all there, and you will get the chance (God willing) to
meet my new partner.
I am just sorry I will not be with you on the 24 their spec to be home on
the 31 th.
Warmly
Patty

The chapter meeting will be this Saturday, October 11. We will have a
presentation on Odin mobile phones, which are usable and available to blind
people. If you meet certain income requirements, you may get these phones
free. Many low-income people can get a phone through special programs, but
none of the phones available are accesible to the blind.
We have a busy next few months of events. Here are some of them, for our
chapter and state affiliate.
Tuesday, October 14: From 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., we will be at Uno's, 4001 Town
Center Boulevard, Bowie, MD 20716. If you and your friends buy dinner and
mention that you are helping the National Federation of the Blind Sligo
Creek chapter, we will get 10% of the cost of your meal. You can increase
our donations by taking an order home for tomorrow;.
Nuts will be in on Monday. We are selling 2 new kinds of nuts, and we are
dropping some that were not selling well. We have a nut sale scheduled at
the Greenbelt '
giant, 6000 Greenbelt Road, on October 18.
The dinner for our scholarship fund is on Friday, October 24. We are
getting some nice auction items, but we would like a few more. Five people
have paid so far. The cost is $30 a person. If you want to reserve a
table, you should pay $240 by October 17.
On October 25, the Friends of the Library will have a presentation honoring
volunteers. Their speaker will be Tony Pann, a Baltimore weather forecaster
who \has written a children's book. This is from 10:00 to noon and will be
at the library, 415 Park Avenue in Baltimore.
Also on October 25, the National Harbor chapter will have a resource day at
Colmar Manor Town Hall, 3701 Lawrence Street, Colmar Manor. They will have
an emphasis on health issues, but there will be other services that you can
check out.
On November 1 we will begin a new Braille Rocks club. We will be working
with young children who were with us in the BELL program.
Our state convention will be November 15-17. Please plan to be there. We
will be leaving from New Carrollton at 8:00 Friday morning, November 14.
As you can see, this is a busy time. There will be a few opportunities to
help us fundraise and get publicity for us.
