For the August meeting, we forewent the reading of the July minutes. Someone 
suggested I post them to the list. They are old, but they may still be 
useful. Remember, forewent is forgotten.

Minutes, Sligo Creek Chapter,
NFB of Maryland,
July 18, 2015
The meeting was called to order at 1:29 PM by president Deborah Brown at the 
Long Branch Library in Takoma Park.
At least 30 people were present.
Minutes of the June meeting were read and approved.
Treasurer's report was given by Shawn Jacobson. The ending balance was 
$2,387.15. The report was approved.
It was announced that our picnic will be August 8 at Kimoy Kelly's house. 
9308 Wyatt Drive, Lanham.
Metmku Johannes announced his new job, interpreting between English and 
Amharic. Much of this work is in hospitals and court cases.
We reported on national convention meetings we had attended that others 
probably missed.. Debbie went to a meeting about the National Reading Media 
Assessment. I talked about Microsoft, iOS productivity apps, Say Shopping. 
Terry Powers went to the deaf-blind division. She used the radio receivers 
for the first time. Google Glass AIRA app demonstration. Henry went to the 
antique auto show; 8 vehicles were on display. They also sold some crafts. 
Shawn was elected treasurer of the writer's division in absentia. Judy went 
to the membership seminar; it was suggested to work with people where they 
are by starting some specialized divisions. Janice Toothman worked with some 
kids exploring tools. This was arranged through Joe Naulty. Patty Homann did 
interpreting from Spanish to English. She also enjoyed shopping in the 
exhibit hall. Will Eitington went to the audio editing seminar. He was 
impressed by the speeches and the sorts of discriminations people run into. 
Valerie Jackson was at the diabetic seminar.Teresa Thomas enjoyed the 
umbrellas. Presidential speeches. Resolutions. Tom Bickford: went to the 
Seniors Division.Laura Havard attended the Public Employees committee, where 
there was discussion concerning electronic medical records. Debbie liked the 
fact that  President Riccobono talked about his family in his banquet 
speech.
WIOA: we Need e-mails and web submissions. Debbie volunteered to help for 
those who don't have e-mail.
Judy talked about changes that WIOA will make in rehab funding; in Maryland 
$6 million is to be set aside for pre-employment for students.
Debbie took names of members willing to help as volunteers with the BELL 
program..
The Scholarship dinner, October 3, will be called Bidding for Opportunity.
Our September meeting's speaker will talk about bus rapid transit proposals 
for Montgomery County,. We will have another speaker for the October meeting 
to talk about the senior bill payer program.
In a blindness moment, we discussed some techniques for organizing things or 
getting our information in daily living.
It was noted that Christopher Emory will be running White Cane and More.
