Metro Service Advisory for Stadium-Armory Metrorail Station: Only Blue Line trains will stop at Stadium-Armory during rush hours

IN EFFECT: WEEKDAYS ONLY 5AM-10AM & 2PM-7:30PM

Starting Tuesday, September 29, Metro will implement a service change at Stadium-Armory Station to reduce "stop and go" rush-hour rides and congestion on the Orange, Silver and Blue lines following a major transformer fire that occurred on Sept. 21.

During weekday rush hours (above), Stadium-Armory will be served by Blue Line trains only, while all Orange and Silver line trains will pass through the station without stopping.

If traveling to or from Stadium-Armory during the above times:

* Use Blue Line trains to complete your trip. Transfer to/from Blue Line trains at any other station served by Orange and Silver lines, if needed.

* Free shuttle buses available during above times between Stadium-Armory & Minnesota Avenue stations for riders traveling between Stadium-Armory and Orange Line stations to the east (e.g. New Carrollton).

The fire knocked offline a 9-megawatt power substation that converts commercial power to D/C electricity that is used to run trains. Metro is currently "feeding" power to the area of Stadium-Armory from smaller substations farther away and that are already at their output capacity. To avoid overloading the system or disrupting service, Metro has been forced to reduce train speeds and limit the number of trains passing through the Stadium-Armory area. Metro's engineering and power departments are working to demolish and rebuild the damaged substation and replace equipment on an expedited basis - a process that is estimated to take more than six months.

Please forward this information along to others who may be affected in your organization so that they may plan appropriately. Updated information will continue to be posted on Metro's website (wmata.com<http://www.WMATA.com>).
