Applicants of diverse backgrounds, professions, gender, geography, disability and ethnicity are encouraged to apply. Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time. Members of these boards are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. Leggett's appointments are generally subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of individuals selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.

Leggett Seeks Applicants for Commission on People with Disabilities

County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill seven vacancies on the Commission on People with Disabilities. Three vacancies must be filled by representatives of organizations or agencies that provide services to people with disabilities; one vacancy must be filled by a parent of a person with disabilities; and three vacancies must be filled by representatives of people with disabilities. Four incumbents are eligible to apply for reappointment.

The Commission advises the County Executive on programs and services concerning the nearly 190,000 residents with disabilities.

Members serve three-year terms without compensation, but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. The Commission meets on the second Wednesday evening of each month (except July and August) at the Executive Office Building in Rockville. Members are expected to serve on at least one committee or work group that meets approximately once every month on its own schedule.
