Hi all,

 

In this edition of the newsletter, we have reminders about goalball and blind hockey practice, information about the Paralympics, and a link to our Facebook event page for the poker/trivia night on September 14 so you can invite all of your friends.

 

1)      Goalball Practice on September 10

Our first goalball practice of the season is this Saturday, September 10, from 9 AM-noon at the DC Jewish Community Center at 1529 16th St. NW, on the corner of 16th and Q Streets. We’ve got some new players coming out to this practice, as well as people getting into game shape for the tournament on October 1-2, so whether you’ve been to lots of previous goalball practices or only one or two (or even none at all), this would be a great time to get out on the court, reconnect with old friends and maybe make some new ones. 2)      Blind Hockey Practices on Sunday Mornings

Blind hockey is also still going strong in the DC area, with free skating and hockey lessons taking place at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, right near the Ballston Metro station, on Sunday mornings. Check out the Facebook page for the event here:

3)      Paralaympics Begin in Rio Today

The Paralympic Games are taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the next ten days, through September 18. Check out this link for the schedule of events:

4)      Tell Your Friends About Poker/Trivia Night on September 14

In honor of the Paralympics, we’re adding some sports-related trivia to our next poker night at Parlay from 6-9 PM on Wednesday, September 14. As usual, a spot at the poker table will cost you $20, but if you only want to participate in trivia, the entry fee is just $5. All proceeds will be used to support MWABA activities, including our goalball tournament coming up at George Mason University on October 1 and 2, and perhaps some ski and tubing trips this winter!
