Hi Debbie,
I think that we should do it. Also it can be good practice for our parade on the 16th.

I am passing this along, because it's a good idea. It should have been ours. I want to see if it works.

Debbie

Hi Debbie,
Haven't seen you in a while. How are you? Francie gave me your email address, and I wanted to let you know that my friends and I are planning a flash mob for white cane safety day in Rockville town center. I have attached the directions, and the dance info if you want to come. Read below for more info:

Want to join a Flash Mob for White Cane Safety Day?

Who? Anyone who is visually impaired and their families/friends should join us!
Wear red or white shirts OR order a shirt no later than September 29th.
(more info on shirts at the bottom of this page)

What? If you can step, squat, and lunge, you can do the flash mob dance.
We are dancing to the Justin Timberlake song “Can’t Stop the Feeling”
(a link to an instructional video of the dance is below as well as written directions to this very simple dance) The song we chose is about
4 minutes and 45 seconds. If you don’t know what a flash mob is, look at our event last year on youtube (when you hear the music, we are doing a simple line dance) :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDs66HKQrEU&sns=em

We will be passing out info and white cane pins to educate others

We plan to videotape the event and share it on youtube

When? October 15th at 12:00 pm -be in the general area by 11:40 (11:20 if you order a shirt) (If you need a ride from the metro station, be at the Rockville metro station by 11:15, but let us know if you need a ride-contact info below)

Where?
Rockville town center-between 29 Maryland Ave (Thai Pavillion) and 33 Maryland Ave (Buffalo Wild Wings)-this is near the Rockville library.

For those taking public transportation, it is not too long a walk from the Rockville metro station. Walking directions attached. Anyone not comfortable walking from the metro station can let us know by October 13, and we will plan to have a driver pick you up and get you over the square. Call Marybeth 301-412-4224 or Gina 301-613-7378

For anyone who is parking a car, park in Garage A-there is two hour free validation from the library (or any business where you make a purchase).

Why? The purpose is not only to celebrate our independence with the white cane, but to educate people about blindness (and it’s fun!)

Contact Info:
Marybeth Cleveland 301-412-4224, mbcleveland at fastmail.net or Gina Schmid 301-613-7378 lovinghands99 at verizon.net

Please RSVP to Marybeth to mbcleveland at fastmail.net or Gina at lovinghands99 at verizon.net so we can share any last minute details. We will be on the square on October 8th at 10 am if you want to preview the area or learn the steps on this date. Let us know if you plan to come to the “practice” and/or the event, so we can look out for you.

This event is supported by:
Orientation and Mobility Specialists from Maryland and Virginia:
Marybeth Cleveland, Gina Schmid, Allison Knighton, Mary Filicetti, Nina O'Neill, and Susie Adams

Have a great day.
