If anyone is interested in applying to the Metro Accessibility Advisory Committee, this is the chance.  It takes a lot of time, which is why I will probably not apply again until I retire, but if you use the system, you are probably qualified for the job, especially if you use bus and rail.  When I was on the bus and rail subcommittee, we met for two hours.  Either they think they have the job done or that there is no hope, and neither is the case.

Metro seeks applicants for Accessibility Advisory Committee

       Metro is looking for riders with disabilities and senior citizens interested in joining the Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC). The AAC consists of 20 volunteers committed to helping Metro enhance the travel experience of people with disabilities and senior citizens on Metrobus, Metrorail, and MetroAccess.

Six members of the AAC represent Maryland, six represent Virginia, six represent the District of Columbia, and two members serve at-large. Positions are available for residents of the District of Columbia, Prince George's County, Montgomery County, Arlington County, Fairfax County, Fairfax City, City of Falls Church, and the City of Alexandria.

To qualify, prospective members must be riders of Metrobus, Metrorail, and/or MetroAccess. Members of the AAC cannot be Metro employees, contractors, or elected officials. All AAC positions are unpaid volunteer positions.

Metro's Board of Directors appoint new members selected from a collection of candidates who represent a cross-section of customers with disabilities and senior citizens, and reflect a broad representation of people from different geographical locations in Metro's service area.

Interested candidates may call Metro's Department of Access Services, Office of ADA Policy and Planning, at 202-962-1100 to request an application form.
Completed applications may be submitted online, mailed to the WMATA Accessibility Advisory Committee at 600 Fifth Street, NW, Room 7A-01, Washington, DC 20001, or faxed to 202-962-1274. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2017.

DC Age-Friendly

Community Consultation
1.    Washington, DC residents, let your voice be heard! The DC Age-Friendly Task Force wants to hear from you what needs to be addressed and prioritized to make DC a more livable city for all ages. Join friends and neighbors at a series of Community Consultations that will be held across the city to talk in small groups about policies and priorities for the next Age-Friendly DC Strategic Plan. Volunteer facilitators will lead discussions covering 12 overarching topic areas: (1) outdoor spaces and buildings, (2) transportation, (3) housing, (4) social participation, (5) respect and social inclusion, (6) civic participation and employment, (7) communication and information, (8) community support and health services, (9) emergency preparedness and resilience, (10) elder abuse, neglect, fraud, and other legal issues, (11) food security, and (12) caregiving. All attendees will have an opportunity to share their thoughts on each of the 12 topic areas in small group discussions, so that every voice is heard.

Metro is pleased to host one of the community consultations on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. This consultation will be held at Metro headquarters building, 600 5th Street, NW, Washington DC.
