The Library of Congress is using technology and ingenuity to make collections accessible to visitors, researchers and tourists who are blind. A panel of speakers will present on a variety of Library programs and best practices in 3D imaging and curation for the visually impaired.

The "All Things Tactile" panel discussion will be held Monday, Oct. 23, at 11 a.m. in room 119 of the Library's Thomas Jefferson Building. Pre-registration through allthingstactile.eventbrite.com<http://allthingstactile.eventbrite.com/> is recommended but not required.

NLS staff will discuss the utility of 3D maps; a curator from the Library's Geography and Map Division will describe how the Library has made 3D scans of Maya ceramics accessible to researchers across the globe; a professor will share best practices, and the Library's Visitor Services Chief will share how visitors can experience real 3D ob




The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped will discuss the utility of 3D maps; a curator from the Library's Geography and Map Division will describe how the Library has made 3D scans of Maya ceramics accessible to researchers across the globe; the director of a virtual curation lab will share best practices; and the Library's Visitor Services Office will share how visitors can experience real 3D objects in the Library's new Touch History tour.<https://www.loc.gov/item/prn-17-105/>

The discussion will be followed by a hands-on show-and-tell on the mezzanine level of the Thomas Jefferson Building at noon featuring architectural samples from the Jefferson building as well as plastic 3D replicas from the Virtual Curation Laboratory at Virginia Commonwealth University. Guided tours of the Exploring the Early Americas exhibition<https://www.loc.gov/exhibits/exploring-the-early-americas/> will also be offered.

"All Things Tactile" is presented by the Library's Organization of Employees with Disabilities and its Office of Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity Programs to celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The event was inspired by this year's theme of "Inclusion Drives Innovation" which was set by the Department of Labor.
