FYI

Dear language access partners and allies,

We have fantastic news to share! We will be holding another session of our Breaking Silence: Interpreting for Victim Services interpreter training in May 2019!

About Breaking Silence:

Breaking Silence is a 4-day, 32-hour training during which interpreters gain the skills necessary to work directly with crime victims. Applicants who successfully complete the training will be given the opportunity to sign a contract to begin accepting paid assignments as independent contractors for Ayuda’s Victim Services Interpreter Bank. This year's training is being funded by the Maryland Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention (GOCCP MD) under sub-award number VOCA-2018-0100, which was funded by Award No. 2018-V2-GX-0032 awarded by the Office for Victims of Crime, Office of Justice Programs, Department of Justice.

The training will take place in Silver Spring, MD from Friday, May 17th, 2019 through Monday, May 20th, 2019 (from 9AM to 5PM on all 4 days). The training is free, but applicants who are selected to attend the training will be asked to submit a $50 deposit online in order to hold their place in the class (instructions will be provided via email once the applicant has been notified about their acceptance). Deposits will be refunded upon successful completion of language proficiency testing (if required by Ayuda) and of the training.

CEUs for spoken and sign language interpreters will be offered.

Ideal candidates for this training:

You can help spread the word about this important, publicly-funded interpreter bank that helps connect MD crime victims to vital services by forwarding this exciting announcement to all qualified interpreters – qualified meaning interpreters who have already taken a 40-hour interpretation training (or are RID-certified) and currently work as interpreters – within your network! When forwarding this information, we would greatly appreciate it if you could also blind carbon copy LAsearch at ayuda.com<mailto:LAsearch at ayuda.com>.
