Good luck, Fred!
I lost my luggage at convention, a few years ago. That was scary!

Thankfully they found both, by the evening!
I make sure I am right there when they put mine on the buss!
Good luck!

If you check your luggage they will give you tickets with the tag numbers on them. But they don’t keep track of your luggage at a station where you have changed buses; you have to keep it with you. Except at the starting bus station, Judy and I have had to be rather paranoid about where our luggage is and how it gets on the right bus. Traveling by Greyhound has become more stressful each time we have used it.
Fred, I hope you still get your luggage back.

If you have homeowner’s insurance (I’m not sure if you still own a house), you should report it to your insurance company. My lost luggage got found before I had to actually file a claim, so I can’t tell you more about the experience than that. If you are suspicious, you should file a police report. I have never had Greyhound load anything for me, so I don’t know what their procedure is. Do they normally give you a receipt as the airlines do?

Hi Guys,
I have had a very bitter experience with Greyhound Bus Company. I traveled with two suitcases from Columbus Ohio to Pitsburg PA on the morning of Tuesday January 1. I had the two suitcases with me when I got off the bus in Pitsburg. About two hours later when I was about to board the bus that was to take me from Pitsburg to Baltimore, the lady who was then in charge of the bus station instructed another member of staff to help me. That person took my ticket and left me for a few minutes. When she returned I asked about my luggage and she told me that the two suitcases had been loaded into the bus. Unfortunately, however, when we got to Baltimore where I was to board the bus that should bring me to New Carrollton, my two suitcases were nowhere to be found. They were not in the bus. Up to this moment they have not been found. I have been calling Greyhound almost every other day. I am now at the point of giving up any hope of them being found.
I wonder if any of you have had a similar experience; if so, how was it resolved. I will greatly appreciate any advice or suggestion. Thanks.

Fred.

The chapter meeting this Saturday will be at the Long Branch library, 8800 Garland Avenue, at 1:30. I know that there is a forecast for snow, but we will plan to meet unless something serious materializes. We have many things to do, so if the library is open and MetroAccess is running, we will have a meeting. If I ever decide to cancel a chapter meeting, I will do so by 9:00 on the day of the meeting, and I will try to call everyone.

Our new NFB of Maryland president, Ronza Othman, will be coming to the meting on Saturday.

We have several events in January.

January 19—Louis Braille birthday. We will play games and demonstrate braille products. It will be at the Davis Library, 6400 Democracy Boulevard, Bethesda. The event will be from 2:00 to 4:00, but if you are coming to help out, be there by 1:00.

January 24—Day in Annapolis. We will leave from Glenmont or New Carrollton at 7:00 and return to New Carrollton at 8 p.m. We will be walking around the House and Senate buildings and talking to legislators. We will discuss the issues on Saturday. Please let me know by then if you plan to go.

Monday, January 28—Great gathering-in meeting of the Washington Seminar. People from all over the country will gather at the Holiday Inn Capitol, 550 C Street S.W., in Washington, DC. The meeting is from 5:00 to 7:00 in the evening. There will be a legislative seminar and other events in the afternoon. Fact sheets about the issues are on the NFB’s website.

Tuesday, January 29—Appointments on Capitol Hill and evening reception. I will let you know about the appointments as they are scheduled. The reception will be in the Capitol Visitors Center from 5:30 to 7:00. I will let you know more about that as we get closer to the time.

Saturday, April 6--Bid for Opportunity. This will be at the VFW-Morningside, where we were last year. Tickets will be $40. We will need auction items and people to buy them.

The Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped is competing for an award of $35,000. If we read and log our reading hours, we can help the library get the money. Library patrons must read for 50,000 minutes. You can sign up at marylandlbph.beanstack.org or call LaShawn Miles at 410-230-2455.

If you have not paid dues, please do it for the year. Dues are $5.

We have nuts left. The kinds we have are butter toffee nuts, $2.50; Jeppi #82 mix, $3.00; Baltimore bar mix, $3.50; nut and fruit mix, $3.50; pistachios, $6.00; and mixed nuts, $6.00. Please buy them.

I hope to see all of you on Saturday so that we can start the New Year in motion.

Debbie
