We know the vaccine process is rapidly changing.  Here’s a detailed
breakdown on the steps you can take towards getting vaccinated and helping
us all to crush the COVID-19 pandemic.

   - There is limited vaccine supply, and that has limited the number of
   doses the State receives from the Federal government (about 72,000 doses
   per week) and the number of doses the County’s Department of Health and
   Human Services (DHHS) receives from the State (an average of 6,000 doses
   per week).  With a community of more than 1 million residents, that means
   that the process is going much slower than anybody would like.

   - While the State has announced that Maryland jurisdictions can begin
   vaccinating residents in 1C, that doesn’t mean that every county is able to
   do that—where we are in the priority group process depends on the amount of
   vaccine we receive and how many residents are in a particular priority
   group.  The State has given local health officers the authority to have
   policies and protocols for clinics operated by the County’s Department of
   Health and Human Services (DHHS).  For example, it is estimated that there
   are 30,000-40,000 residents in the very first priority group (1A) and there
   are more than 70,000 residents age 75 and older who are included in
   priority group 1B.

   - For clinics operated by the Montgomery County Department of Health and
   Human Services (health department), we are vaccinating the remainder of
   Priority Group 1A and have expanded to vaccinating those in the first tier
   in Priority Group 1B-residents who are 75 years and older.

   - To get vaccinated, individuals in Priority Group 1B (75+) must
   preregister. We recently invited residents in 1B and 1C to preregister.   A

   - Preregistration does not equal a vaccination appointment—it places you
   in the queue by priority group. When vaccine doses arrive, we contact
   residents from the preregistration list and invite them to make an
   appointment.

   - At this time, we cannot predict how quickly we will move through the
   various priority groups because the amount of vaccine delivered to us by
   the Maryland Department of Health may vary from week to week.

   - When you receive an invitation to make an appointment, you will
   receive a phone call or an email directly from the County’s Department of
   Health and Human Services.  Due to limited vaccine availability and our
   efforts to ensure equitable access to vaccinations, we are unable to honor
   appointments made through any other sources.  Email invitations will come
   from c19vaccination at montgomerycountymd.gov .

What if I cannot preregister because I don’t have a computer or I need help?

We ask that neighbors and family members offer to help others preregister.
A preregistration assistance helpline is available seven days a week from 8
a.m. to 6 p.m. and can be reached at 240-777-2982. There are bilingual
call-takers (primarily English and Spanish) available, and agents can also
access a language line to help with other languages as needed.
What other providers are offering vaccinations to residents?

Hospitals are beginning to hold public clinics but keep in mind that these
clinics operate under State rules and not rules that clinics operated by
DHHS follow.  This means they may have broadened the priority groups
eligible for vaccination at their clinics.  Their registration is separate
