> Playing News from LBPD
>
> The Maryland State Library for the Blind and Print Disabled has an audio blog that you can play on all of your devices. For the iPhone, simply tell Siri to play Maryland State Library podcast from Spotify. If you would rather use TuneIn, tell Siri to play Beyond the Stacks from TuneIn. For your Google device, simply tell Google to play Maryland State Library podcast and the default will be Google podcasts. Echo users can tell Alexa to play Maryland State Library podcasts from Amazon Music. By accessing the audio blog, you will be informed about the latest happenings at LBPD, such as tech news, collection referrals, and upcoming events. Unfortunately, at this moment, the podcast is not available on the Victor Reader Stream platform.

> Taking Notes
>
> Being able to make note of phone numbers, addresses, medication directions, etc. is quite important. The iPhone has an easy app that will allow you to record messages, and they are automatically stored on the device. The app is called Voice Memo. The first time you tell Siri to launch Voice Memo, there may be some details on the app that Apple will place on the screen. You can swipe with one finger to find the Next, Continue, or OK button. When the desired button is found, double tap with one finger to activate it.
>
> The main screen of the Voice Memo app has a few options. The Record button takes up the bottom third of the screen. Double tap this button with one finger to start the recording and again to stop it.
>
> You should note that pressing the Lock button will not stop the recording and that recordings do take up space on your device. The first recording will have the designation New Recording 11, and there will be options on the screen to play, rewind, delete, etc. The Record button will remain at the bottom of the screen so that you will always have the option of recording another voice note. You also have the ability to give each recording a name. To do this, find New Recording 11 and flick up with one finger. The first option is to edit the name. Double tap with one finger, and then type in a name. Please also note that there is no pause option for recording a voice memo, but there is one for playing them.

> Putting Websites on the Home Screen for an iPhone
>
> Many websites are just as useful as apps, so why not have them conveniently located on your iPhone so that you can have quick access to them?
>
> To make this happen, do the following:
>
> Go to the website you would like to add to your home screen.
> Find the Share tab at the bottom of the screen and double tap it.
> Swipe until you find the Add to Home Screen button.
> An edit field will appear with a suggested name for your bookmark, which you can keep or erase.
> Tap the Done button, and you will now see this website on your home screen.
> This process seems to work with Safari, but you may experience different results with other browsers and smart devices.

> July 9: Accessible Book Apps
>
> Accessible books can mean books that are downloaded to your smartphone, computer, e-reader, or smart device. You have probably heard of BARD, Overdrive, Kindle and Audible, but there are other sources for books in audio, daisy and HTML formats. We will look at some of the other sources for books, how to access them, and weigh the pros and cons of each service.
