*Commission on Aging Honors Outstanding Community Leaders*The Montgomery
County Commission on Aging is pleased to announce the recipients of the
esteemed Community for a Lifetime Award, recognizing individuals whose
exceptional contributions align with the mission of enabling older adults
to live quality lives, making Montgomery County their community for a
lifetime. The award ceremony took place on December 21st, during the
Commission's Year End Luncheon event at the Holiday Park Senior Center.

*Stuart Rosenthal, Publisher of the Beacon Newspaper, has been selected as
a recipient of the Community for a Lifetime Award in recognition of his
outstanding contributions to the community. Beyond providing crucial
information on articles and community events, the Beacon, under Stuart's
leadership, actively engages in educational initiatives for the general
public. The Beacon's 50+ Expo, an annual event attracting thousands, offers
health screenings, valuable information from government agencies,
non-profit organizations, employers, and local businesses.

Stuart has played pivotal roles in various community programs, including
the Path of Achievement Awards, Law Day, the Older Worker Expo, and
centenarians' celebrations. His extensive involvement extends to chairing
the Maryland Commission on Aging (2007-2015), serving on the Maryland Aging
and Disability Resource Center Advisory Board, co-chairing the
Communications Committee of Age Friendly Montgomery, and contributing to
other state and county commissions.

*Mary Jo Deering is being recognized for her outstanding work in the
Village movement and her role as the President of the Washington Area
Village Exchange (WAVE). Mary Jo has been a driving force in achieving the
Commission on Aging's vision through her efforts in the Village movement
since 2014. She played a crucial role in creating and leading an
intergenerational, no-fee village in her neighborhood. Mary Jo's leadership
on the WAVE board culminated in a successful 2019 conference and eventually
led her to become the WAVE president in 2021.

*The Oasis – Metro Washington Lifelong Learning Program is honored with the
Community for a Lifetime Award in recognition of its long-term service and
innovative programming for the older adult community in Montgomery County.
Oasis has been a pioneer in healthy aging for 40 years, providing lifelong
learning, computer technology education, health promotion, and volunteering
opportunities, including intergenerational tutoring. Dedicated to equity
and access for all older adults, Oasis has become a true asset for the
County. Accepting the award for Oasis is the Executive Director, Ms. Anna
Stokes.
