For as long as I can remember, and that's at least 4.5 decades or more, Microsoft Word has used "Keep source formatting" as its default paste option.  As of this morning, at least for me (and it will be coming to everyone using M365), the default paste option has changed to "Merge formatting."

 

This effectively means that no matter what font and point size had been used for the thing copied, it will be pasted in the font and point size for the text in the document at the location where it's being pasted.  Things like bold and italic are maintained, but not font and point size.

 

I love, love, love this change as I have been hand selecting "Merge formatting" for the vast majority of pastes I have been doing forever.  There are rare occasions where I want the source formatting, but I'd rather have to select that option for those exception cases instead of needing to select "Merge formatting" almost every time I paste.
