The chapter meeting on Saturday will be at the White Oak library, 11701 New
Hampshire Avenue. The meeting begins at 1:45.
Thanks To Queen for bringing refreshments. She is bringing sandwiches, and
I need to let her know soon if anyone besides Yasmin wants a vegetarian
sandwich.
We will have two events the following Saturday, May 18. Some of us will be
at the Gaithersburg Book Festival. The event is at Bohrer Park, 506 South
Frederick Avenue. I will be picking a few people up to get there early in
the morning, before 9:15. If you are coming later, it is best to come by
shuttle from Shady Grove Metro. If you are doing that, let me know and I
will give you directions. We will be playing braille games and making
bookmarks.
If you are not at the book festival, you should attend a health advocacy
seminar on May 18 from 1:30 to 5:00. The seminar will be led by Deborah
Kendrick, author of the book "Navigating Health Care When All They Can See
is that You Can't." The seminar will cover doctor visits, medical tests,
hospital stays, and emergency care. She has children, so in additionn to
dealing with her own needs, she has had to manage her children's medical
needs as well.
If you are goin to the convention, deadlines are approaching. You need to
register by May 31. The main convention hotel is full for several nights
during the convention. Many of us will be staying at one of the overflow
hotels, the Rosen Shingle Creek. Shuttle service to the Rosen Centre will
be available.
Our textbook bill will be signed into law by the governor on Thursday, May
16. We need to be there at 9:00 a.m. I am working on transportation, but I
need to know who is going. Various groups are lined up and herded in and
out, so you need to be able to be on your feet. As with any event, if you
are diabetic, bring a snack because we never know how long these events will
take.
I hope to see everyone on Saturday.
Debbie
