Subject: [MD-Sligo] Chapter meeting this Saturday and other events

We will be meeting this Saturday at 1:30 at the Long Branch community center, 8700 Piney Branch Road. We will be meeting in the art room.

Gilberto Zelaya, who works for the Montgomery County Board of Elections, will be at the meeting to demonstrate the voting machines that will be used in the 2026 election and to help anyone, even if they are not a resident of Montgomery County, to register to vote, change your address, or change party affiliation. He will also answer any questions you may have about voting.

All of Sligo’s supply of tickets for the spring raffle are gone, but there are probably a few left throughout the state. If you didn’t get any and want some, please let me know and I will try to get some for you. Tickets are $5, and the raffle is drawn throughout the month of May. If your number is drawn on Sunday through Friday, you win $50; if it is drawn on Saturday, you win $100.

We still have a lot of candy left. Please let me know if you want any. We have dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and peanut brittle bars. The dark chocolate and milk chocolate are $5 for two bars or $60 for a box of 24. The peanut brittle bars are $4 a bar or $32 for a box of 8.

On Saturday, April 18 we will have a virtual seminar from 1:00 to 3:00 for new members and prospective members. If you have questions about what we do in the National Federation of the Blind, this is for you. Please let me know if you can attend, and I will send you the link.

We will have a BELL program in Rockville this summer. We will be looking for volunteers, but first we need to get students. Thanks to Morgan Estes who has been sending the flyer far and wide! If you have any contact with any blind students, I will send you a copy of the flyer. BELL stands for Braille Enrichment for Literacy and Learning, and it is a 2-week program for children ages 4-12 where they learn braille and other skills blind people need, such as handling money, using a cane, and basic skills of cooking such as measuring and pouring.

I hope to see everyone on Saturday.

Debbie
