Sligo Creek Chapter Minutes
November 8, 2025
This meeting is being held at the Kensington Park Library
The meeting was called to order at 1:46 PM by President Debbie Brown.
Announcements: Debbie announced we have some new people here today.
Minutes: Judy read the October minutes Yasmin made a motion to accept the
minutes as read and it was seconded by Shawn.
Treasurer's Report: Ben Danforth presented the treasurer's report with an
ending balance of $1,745.05. Yasmin and it was seconded by Terri Nettles to
accept the report as presented and the motion carried.
Walk at Brookside Gardens had 13 walkers. Yasmin collected money for the
walk and Ben reported we made $345.
Introductions: There were 27 present and some new people. Debbie explained
to be a member, they would meet with her to get to know them better. They
would learn about NFB, the philosophy and about the Chapter. She informed us
the next regular meeting will be on Zoom in January and that will be when
the members will vote the perspective members in. Jeff is the membership
chair and he will talk to them.
Janice explained to the new prospective members her techniques for labeling
her oven.
Debbie played the Presidential Release.
PRESIDENT Riccobono mentioned our anniversary of forming the NFB is Nov. 16,
1940. The podcast shares the content weekly from the book Walking Alone
Marching Together.
Judy suggested that we play some of the songs that Sligo had written and
discuss them.
Before elections of officers, Debbie read the members who are eligible to
vote because they paid their dues.
Judy presented the nominating slate as follows:
President: Debbie Brown
Vice President: Yasmin
Secretary: Terri Nettles
Treasurer: Ben Danforth
Board of Directors: Morgan, Terry Powers and Janice Toothman
Yasmin made a motion to accept the slate as presented and Terry Powers
seconded.
Elections were held.
All officers were elected by acclamation.
Debbie thanked Michelle Lindsay for her years of service on the board.
Scholarship dinner: Debbie read the list of people who have paid and she
said she committed for 65. Debbie explained the scholarship fund because
someone had inquired. Debbie said to let her know if you need a ride to the
scholarship dinner. She gave the address 9450 Cherry Hill Rd.
Auction Items: if you have not given your items to Judy, make sure you get
them to her. The event starts at 5:00 PM.
Debbie thanked those who went to meetings with the legislators.
Sue mention the Lions Vision Support in Leisure World this Wednesday will be
having (TAP) Technology Assistance Program at their meeting and the next
day the Lions Low Vision Support group partnering with the Leisure World
Technology Department will have Diane Ducharme from the Image Center in
Towson at 1:00. There will be phone training for I-phone, Android and Blind
Shell. She gave the address. She mentioned that you do not have to be a
resident of Leisure World to attend both events. She will send details to
Debbie and Debbie will email to the Chapter.
Yasmin mentioned she is doing volunteer training which is a three month
training class once a month. She was able to get two volunteers who walked
with those who did the walk.
We then had Pac collections.
The meeting adjourned at 3:30 PM.
