The power outage caused by Hurricane Sandy on October 29, 2012 affected
hundreds of thousands of <ST1:STATE u1:st="on"><ST1:PLACE u1:st="on"><st1:State
w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Maryland</ST1:PLACE></ST1:STATE></st1:place></st1:State>
residents, and many Food Supplement Program (FSP) recipients will need
replacement benefits.<br>
<br>
Current FSP recipients who live in Garrett and <ST1:PLACE u1:st="on"><ST1:PLACENAME u1:st="on"><st1:place
w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Somerset</ST1:PLACENAME></st1:PlaceName> <ST1:PLACETYPE u1:st="on"><st1:PlaceType
w:st="on">Counties</ST1:PLACETYPE></ST1:PLACE></st1:PlaceType></st1:place>
will automatically receive 30 percent of their October benefit amount directly
on their EBT cards by November 3. The Maryland Department of Human Resources
(DHR) has also applied to the Food and Nutrition Service for a waiver for
automatic replacement benefits for those who live in Allegany, Cecil, Frederick
and Harford counties. At this time, DHR is still waiting to hear a decision for
these counties. In other areas throughout the state, people with power outages
must go to their local department of social services and sign an affidavit of
loss to get replacement benefits. Replacement benefits are limited to 30
percent of October benefits the client received. Customers who claim losses
higher than 30 percent must document the loss. Affidavits will be accepted
until <b><span style='font-weight:bold'>November 28, 2012</span></b> for
replacement of some or all of their October benefit. <br>

Individuals are eligible for replacement benefits if they:</span></font><O:P></O:P><o:p></o:p></p>

sure that vulnerable populations recovering from Hurricane Sandy get the food
assistance they need, ensuring that as people recover from the storm, they can
