Or you can use the guestbook in the Legacy link above.<br><br>Dear friends,<br><br>I'd call each of you if I could, and if most of you weren't asleep already.<br><br>Jeanie died today, in peace and without pain, at<br>Sibley hospital in DC. Andy and I, our children Beth and Greg, and her dear friend Jean Barile were with her, as well as a mutual friend of Jeanie's and Jean's.<br><br>Since the oncologist found that<br>the rare cancer had recurred aggressively on January 7, the cancer has<br>caused new challenges almost every day. Jeanie faced them and dealt with<br>them with her usual intelligence, courage, and general optimism. The<br>past couple of days have been different. She grew extremely weak from<br>lack of nutrition; for two weeks, there has been too much cancer<br>pressing on everything in her abdomen, leaving no room for her to take in more than a few ounces of liquid. Yet even yesterday, she was still<br>fully engaged with life as she listened to All Things Considered and dictated to me a<br>proposal related to county library services for people with<br>disabilities, in preparation for a conference call with county officials<br>that had been planned for this afternoon. Even yesterday, both of her<br>doctors were cautiously hopeful as she had a procedure to begin intravenous<br>feeding. But her witty comments had mostly stopped. I think she knew what her<br>body was doing, and decided it was time to slip away and join Mom,<br>Daddy, and Teresa in joy.<br><br>Jeanie Dunnington is a rare and magnificent and delightful treasure. Always will be.<br><br>Her<br>funeral is likely to be at St. Bernadette church in Silver Spring at<br>10:30 a.m. on Monday, and her wake at Collins funeral home in Silver<br>Spring on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9. I'll confirm this as I know more.
