<p><span style="font-family: calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color:black;">Since 1973, members have gathered in Washington, DC, for the <a href="https://nfb.org/civicrm/mailing/url?u=42058&qid=12324542" rel="nofollow" style="color:blue; text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Washington Seminar</a> to advocate for laws that expand opportunity, promote equality, and protect our rights. Each year, more than five hundred members from across the country participate to advance our legislative priorities and connect with lawmakers.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color:black;"><a href="https://nfb.org/civicrm/mailing/url?u=42082&qid=12324542" rel="nofollow" style="color:blue; text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">At the Great Gathering-In</a>, President Riccobono emphasized the Washington Seminar\u2019s importance: "Independence does not sustain itself. It must be claimed, defended, and advanced. Blind Americans come to Capitol Hill\u2026to speak directly to those who craft the rules that shape our lives. We come insisting on equal access, equal opportunity, and equal responsibility."</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color:black;"><a href="https://nfb.org/civicrm/mailing/url?u=42059&qid=12324542" rel="nofollow" style="color:blue; text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Despite a snowstorm disrupting travel</a>, we adapted and continued our advocacy efforts, securing additional co-sponsors and commitments for our priorities.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color:black;">Answer: Just as the national organization advances a legislative agenda each year, many affiliates lead advocacy efforts in their states. <a href="https://nfb.org/civicrm/mailing/url?u=42083&qid=12324542" rel="nofollow" style="color:blue; text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">The Maryland affiliate visited legislators at the Maryland General Assembly</a> during the winter session.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color:black;">We are working for full participation, respect, and equality for the blind. Meaningful change begins with one person and grows through the power of our collective action. Together, we define what it means to be blind in our own lives.</span></p>

It belongs to each of us, it becomes most powerful when we act together.
