[Mdabs] [Nfbmd] 2012 BISM Student Weekend Retreat and Mondayatthe NABSWinter Seminar

Dear Friends,
We were very strategic in planning the Student Weekend Retreat on the weekend leading into the Winter Seminar for the purpose of trying to facilitate a way to get Maryland Student to the Winter Seminar and to the Great Gathering In. We think it is essential for all students and wanted to do everything possible to make it happen. I realize there is a concern about missing classes but I think that if you talk with your teacher/instructor ahead of time and let them know why you are missing and assure them that you will make your work up that they will be more than understanding. Good time to work on those advocacy skills. I think that if you include the fact that you will be: learning first-hand how to advocate for the rights of blind people, networking with hundreds of blind students from across the country, and checking out new resources for blind college students that your instructors will be more than willing to accommodate you. From my own experiences, teachers/instructors seem to be more open to people missing class if they are told ahead of time and understand that if isn't a frivolous absence. If college students from our other 49 states are able to take advantage of this opportunity, then I am inclined to believe you can, too.
