Hello all!

Doctoral students in the Human Centered Computing Department at UMBC
are conducting research studies to evaluate web accessibility for
blind users. The study takes place on UMBC's campus, but it can take
place at another location if requested. Participants must be blind or
visually impaired, must have some familiarity with mobile screen
readers (VoiceOver or MobileSpeaks), and must know something, even a
little, about browsing the web on a smartphone. Studies can be
scheduled Monday - Friday, 10 am - 6 pm. The session lasts no more
than 1.5 hours. All participants will be compensated $20 for their
time. Please contact Judith Odili Uchidiuno at jodili1 at umbc.edu to
schedule a slot.

Here is a brief description of the research goals:

This NSF-funded research is aimed to design and develop mobile Web
adaptation methods to improve web browsing on mobile phones by
providing content structure ofwebsites through a hierarchical tree
view and organizing it in a way that attempts to minimize unnecessary
scrolling. Such tree view adaptation is designed to support scanning
and skipping during web navigation.

In this experiment, you will use three different systems to browse
several designated web pages on an iphone with touch screen. There
will be a couple of questions associated with each web page. Your task
is to find answers to those questions from web page content as
precisely and quickly as possible. The questions will be provided to
you one by one. You have to find the right answer to the current
question within a given web page, stop the clock, and then enter the
answer in a PC-based answer system before being able to see the next
Web page or the next question. After you finish browsing all the
designated web pages and answering all related questions, you will be
asked to fill out a questionnaire to give us your perception and
feedback toward your experience with using those three systems for web
page navigation on the mobile phone. The entire experiment is expected
to last about one hour.
