Subject: [NFBMD] 1st Maryland Career Mentoring Retreat
Dear Maryland Transition age youth,
National Federation of the Blind Career Mentoring Program
Announces the 2019 Student Weekend Retreat
The National Federation of the Blind Career Mentoring Program connects blind and low vision Maryland students with successful blind role models who are living full lives and who will help you navigate the path from education to career success. Weekend retreats consisting of planned activities and workshops enhance the mentoring relationship and help mentees to be active participants in their futures.
Our first weekend retreat for the Maryland students will take place from 5:00 p.m. on January 18, 2019, through noon on January 20, 2019, at the National Federation of the Blind Jernigan Institute located at 200 East Wells Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21230. The weekend will be packed with information sharing, interactive discussions, educational activities, and fun challenges to help us live the lives we want. It will also be an excellent opportunity to meet and hang out with other blind and low vision peers from Maryland.
If you are a student between ages 14-22, you will:
· Engage in career exploration activities
· Discuss techniques and strategies to succeed in college
· Interact with successful blind professionals
· Practice job readiness and advocacy skills.
· Hone interviewing and job search skills
· Discover a variety of exciting career opportunities
You must complete a mentee application in order to participate. For more information About the NFB’s exciting new Career Mentoring Program in Maryland, and to complete a mentee application, please visit <https://nfb.org/menteeapplication> https://nfb.org/menteeapplication
