Do you know that just 10% of blind students in the United States are taught Braille?
Do you know that 50% of blind high school students will drop out and that 7 out of 10 blind adults are unemployed?
The National Federation of the Blind is committed to changing these numbers through improving Braille literacy.
On March 26th the US Mint issued the 2009 Louis Braille Bicentennial Silver Dollar. There were 400,000 coins minted, the National Federation of the Blind will receive $10.00 for each coin sold. The money will be used to support the NFB's efforts to improve Braille literacy.
To purchase a coin visit www.usmint.org or call 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).
For more information on the NFB's initiative to improve Braille literacy visit www.braille.org

Please forward this email to your family and friends. Help the NFB to make change with a dollar!

Below are two links to Baltimore TV stations WBAL and WJZ showing their reports on the Louis Braille Coin Launch Ceremony. Maryland's own Brandon Pickrel and Jason Polansky took part in the ceremony by reading the Youth Braille Resolution.
