DABA’s 30th Anniversary Dinner-Dance - Sept. 26, 2009
Please join us to celebrate 30 years of blind sports in Delaware with
an evening of great food, dancing, and socializing. It will be held at
the Minquadale Memorial Hall, 129 E. Hazeldell Ave., New Castle, DE
19720 – Sat., Sept. 26, 4:30-9pm. The cost is $20 per person. Blind,
visually impaired, and sighted from throughout the region are welcome!
Limited transportation is available from the Wilmington train station.

SPORTS DAY – Oct. 3, 2009
The 12th Mid-Atlantic Sports Day will be held at the Carpenter Sports
Building at the Univ. of Delaware on Oct. 11, 9:30- 4:45. Blind and
visually impaired ages 7-77 from anywhere are welcome. More than 12
different sports and recreational activities will be offered in
beginner and intermediate level clinics throughout the day. No exp
erience is necessary. Fee is $5 or $10 for family. Walk-ins are
welcome, but pre-registration is requested by calling (302) 836-5784,
or e-mail info at blindsports.org.
SPORTS WEEKEND – Nov. 14-15, 2009
Blind Sports Organization will host the annual Sports Weekend at the
Variety Club Camp in Worcester, PA (just outside Phila.). This is a
fun, overnight, non-competitive, sports camp. No experience necessary.
Blind and visually impaired ages 7 - 77 from anywhere are welcome.
Pre-registration required. Registration deadline is Oct. 30. Fee is $25
per person + membership. To obtain a registration form or for more

WEEKLY SPORTS
Blind Sports Organization’s Philadelphia-area chapter offers weekly
sports activities for blind and visually impaired youth & adults. The
following programs will be offered at the Overbrook School for the
Blind gym. Adults are ages 15+ and Youth are ages 7-15 (functional age)
who can follow

info at blindsports.org. New participants are welcome at any time.
Observers are always welcome.
- Competitive & Recreational Men’s Goalball is offered every Tuesday
5:30-8:30pm.
- Women’s Goalball is offered every Saturday 1:30-4:30pm.
- Youth Sports Program - Sports may include: Softball, Goalball,
Soccer, Bowling, Swimming, and others based on interest.
- Judo for Youth
& Adults is offered every Saturday 10-11:15am.
BOWLING and AUDIO DARTS programs are offered weekly in the Philadelphia

OTHER PROGRAMS in the Mid-Atlantic region - If enough people in an area
are interested in one or more sports, we can try to locate a coach and
a place to hold the activity. Please contact us if you are interested
in participating, coaching, or helping to organize.
MID-ATLANTIC ADULT GOALBALL TOURNAMENTS
Annually, Blind Sports Organization hosts a series of 3 adult Goalball
tournaments – Nov., Jan., & Mar. Teams and individuals (pool players)
are welcome. You will have the opportunity to compete with some
relatively new teams and some of the best teams in the nation. In the
past, teams and players have come from PA, NJ, DE, NY, & MD. It is open
to blind and visually impaired ages 14 & up. Sat., Nov. 21 will be our
season opener at the Overbrook School for the Blind gym. Spectators are

*Goalball is the 2nd most popular team sport for the blind in the
world. It started as a rehabilitation activity for WWII veterans who
were blinded in action. It is played in over 150 countries by male and
female youth and adults. It is played on a volleyball-sized court and
the goalb
