Subject: [Nfbmd] Deadline to Sign-up for Seneca Creek Greenway Trail Hike is
April 27th

April 27, 2012 is the Deadline to Sign-Up for May 5th Hike on Seneca Creek
Greenway Trail!

On Saturday, May 5, 2012, the National Federation of the Blind of Maryland
and the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC) will sponsor a hike on a 2.2
mile section of the Seneca Creek Greenway Trail in Montgomery County,
Maryland. All NFB of Maryland members and their families are encouraged to
participate. The hike is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. from the end of
the trail at the Potomac River and proceed north to Berryville Road. The
hike is expected to be completed by 2:00 p.m. Those who are interested in a
more challenging hike will have the option of hiking an additional 2.2 miles
to the Berryville Road Side Trail. In case of inclement weather, the hike
will take place on Saturday, May 12th.

Bob Pickett, naturalist for the PATC, will lead Maryland federationists on
the Seneca Creek Greenway Trail and help us identify the plants and birds we
encounter as well as tell us some of the local history. The hike will be a
truly inclusive opportunity for the occasional hiker, the nature lover, or
those who just like to get a breath of fresh air from time to time.

Hikers will meet at 9:30 a.m. in the parking lot at the end of Reilys Lock
Road and the hike will commence promptly at 10:00 a.m. Parking is also
available at the end of our hike on Berryville Road and at the Berryville
Road Side Trail. Driving directions will be provided before the hike. Hikers
are encouraged to bring water and a lunch to enjoy on the trail. It is
likely that some wet or muddy spots will be encountered on the trail, so
hikers are encouraged to wear hiking boots or shoes they don't mind getting
muddy. It is also advisable to bring an extra pair of socks, a hat with a
brim, and sunscreen. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Be sure to mark your calendar for May 5th for a day of fun, exercise, and
learning about nature in the great outdoors. If you want to participate in
this hike, please let us know by April 27th by sending an e-mail or calling
Lou Ann Blake at lblake at nfb.org or (410) 659-9314, extension 2221, or
Maurice Peret at mauriceperet at gmail.com or (410) 737-2673.
