Dear Parents:

On this month's Presidential Release it was announced that the
NFB is now conducting a free slate and stylus program in addition
to our current free white cane program. The slate and stylus
which will be given to any applicant who is determined to be
eligible will be a 4-line, 28-Cell (often called an index card or
Janis Interline slate) with a plastic stylus. At this time one
is only eligible for one slate and one stylus per year. In my
experience, however, you will probably not have to replace your
slate and stylus every year, as they do not easily wear out.
This program may be of help to those parents with young children
who are currently being introduced to Braille and need a slate
and stylus to practice their skills. If you would like to apply,
please visit www.nfb.org/free-slate-program to fill out the
online application. Contact Pat Maurer at our national office by
emailing pmaurer at nfb.org or by calling (410) 659-9314 with any
questions. Please feel free to spread the word to anyone who may
be interested.
