Beeping Easter egg hunt

For children with disabilities and those who are visually impaired, join this FREE event to meet the Easter Bunny, find hidden eggs, receive a sweet treat and try to win the grand prize!

Braille Challenge

The 2020 Maryland Braille Challenge #OutOfThisWorld was a huge success! We had Cary Supalo our keynote speaker who is a blind scientist. We had NASA and engineering students conduct science experiments with students. We had the author of Oskar and Klaus: Mission to Cataria do a virtual reading of his book and all of our students got a dual print braille book. We had a wonderful writing competition as well. Thank you to everyone who participated volunteered and send students. A huge shout out to Jackie Otwell who led this effort!

Lisa Wright was recognized for her nomination for the "The Teacher of the Year for Excellence in Braille Instruction Award". This is a national award sponsored by the Braille Institute.

Insights Art Competition Due March 27

APH InSights Art 2020, an art competition and exhibition for visually impaired and blind artists of all ages. The exhibition will be shown in Louisville, Kentucky. Works in the exhibition will be selected from entries submitted for jurying. Award winners will be selected from the juried exhibition. Have your students apply!

NFB Maryland Scholarship

Each year, the NFB of Maryland awards the John T. McCraw Scholarship to two students in the amounts of $2,000 and $1,500 each.   Would be especially great for your high school seniors.

-                 Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement and community involvement.

-                 Application materials must be submitted (online or postmarked) by 11:59PM on April 15, 2020.

-                 To be eligible, applicants must: Be legally blind in both eyes, Be a legal resident of Maryland or be pursuing post-secondary studies at a school in Maryland, Be pursuing or planning to pursue a full-time, post-secondary course of study in a degree program in the Fall of 2020, and Attend the convention of the National Federation of the Blind of Maryland in Towson, Maryland from November 6 – 8, 2020 (scholarship finalists will receive convention assistance).
