Register now for the 2022 Maryland Regional Braille Challenge! We have events for a variety of levels of Braille readers! This year we will be focusing on using Braille to develop skills in the kitchen. Registration is due by January 7th! This event may be virtual or in-person. Still being determined.


·        Maryland Regional Braille Challenge - Grades K-5. This event is for proficient Braille readers who are reading on grade level or below. Below grade level readers and Kindergartners can not qualify for the national competition. ·        NFB BELL Exploration Program. This is a non-competitive program in which students in K-5 will participate in beginning Braille activities.  Participants are typically just learning the alphabet and some contractions. ·        Little Dots Program Early Childhood program in which children ages 2-5 participate in Braille related activities with their families. Registration coming soon!
Nominate your child's TVI for the Teacher of the Year in Excellence in Braille Instruction. This award is sponsored by the Braille Institute. If you nominate your child's teacher, let us know so that we can recognize him or her at the Maryland Regional Braille Challenge. TVI’s are also encouraged to nominate their colleagues! View a prerecorded video tutorial presentation in which Conchita Hernandez, Statewide Blind and Low Vision Specialist shares one of her favorite recipes and kitchen “tricks of the trade”. Conchita has low vision and will demonstrate safe techniques when using a stove top to prepare a favorite snack. A link to join will be included in a REMINDER email sent to the registrants prior to the event.
